Natural Thyroid Hormone

The small butterfly-shaped thyroid gland, located just below your Adam’s apple, secretes two hormones, T3 and T4 (thyroxine), which regulate metabolism. These hormones control the rate at which your body produces energy from food.

High levels of thyroid hormones, or hyper-thyroidism, are associated with marked weight loss and rapid heartbeat. Everything “speeds up”.  Hyperthyroidism is a serious condition that is usually treated with radioactive iodine to destroy portions of the thyroid gland, or with surgical removal of it.

However, the vast majority of people who have some sort of thyroid problem have the opposite condition, Hypothyroidism, or production of too little of the thyroid hormones.

Millions Suffer from Hypothyroidism. Do you?

Although hypothyroidism can occur at any time in life from childhood on, its rates significantly increase with advancing age as thyroid function decreases.

The other, more common causes of hypothyroidism are either inadequate production of hormones by the thyroid gland itself or inadequate production by the pituitary gland of the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which prompts the thyroid to produce T3, T4 and other thyroid hormones. The only treatment for these types of hypothyroidism is thyroid-hormone replacement.
